Our Mission

Our mission is to transform systems of care and the criminal legal system to prevent the unnecessary and unjust criminalization of individuals with behavioral health conditions, people of color, those living in poverty, and others disadvantaged by social determinants of health.

Through our consulting services and tailored solutions, we aim to connect individuals with safe housing, vital supports and services, fostering sustainable pathways to health, wellness, and recovery in the community.

Our Approach

Recognizing the vital role of cross-system strategies, HJS actively promotes communication, collaboration, and inter-agency goal setting strategies. By doing so, we strive to develop integrated, responsive, and sustainable solutions to meet the complex health and social needs of high-risk children, adults, and families.

We work closely with various entities, including:

Communities

We engage with local communities to bring together cross- systems stakeholders to address the needs of individuals and families.

By building relationships and partnerships among community stakeholders, we strive to create sustainable upstream solutions that prevent crises, address the social determinants of health and promote health and well-being in the community.

Police

We collaborate with police departments to improve their response to individuals with behavioral health disorders. Through training programs like Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) and Mental Health First Aid, we empower law enforcement officers to provide compassionate and effective support to those in need. We also focus on first responder support to address the impact of stress and trauma on the job.

Courts

Our team works with court systems to develop innovative diversion programs that offer alternatives to incarceration for individuals with behavioral health disorders. By connecting participants with community-based services and supports, we aim to avoid criminal legal system involvement and promote recovery and safe and healthy lives in the community.

Jails and Prisons

We work with correctional facilities to enhance access and delivery of medical and behavioral health services for incarcerated individuals. We have experience managing state-wide and city-wide correctional health programs in Massachusetts and New York. We are dedicated to supporting correctional workforces through robust training programs that aim to address workplace trauma and break down the stigma associated with seeking help and providing self care strategies.
